The book and CD
Patrick Dheur has developed a unique and authentic rapport with music. Written as a symphony in several movements, this book is a journey into the heart of a rare and passionate craft. Where does inspiration come from? How does one write music? How is a musical idea born? What is the life of a composer like today? What is the secret of this incredible tradition?
The author responds confidently, sometimes in poetry and often with anecdotes, moving from dreams to reality. It is a narrative filled with life and hope, with day-to-day realities that allow us to uncover the composer’s passion and art, as well as his endeavours to live in a changing world and to compose within it. The CD contains extracts of compositions by the author, which guide the reader through their journey. This is a must-have for a book about music.
Patrick Dheur is an internationally renowned Belgian composer and pianist. Two years after his concert in Carnegie Hall in New York and a European tour, he took the time between two compositions to write a new book.
His career as a pianist/concert musician began after his studies at the Royal Conservatory of Liège (Belgium). Patrick Dheur has won numerous international competitions and awards, notably the grand prize at the Karol Szymanowski International Music Competition. He works with Nikita Magaloff, Paul Badura-Skoda and Lucette Descaves. Selected by Leon Fleisher for the Peabody Conservatory of Baltimore, he will soon devote special attention to the United States.
He shares his art and his thoughts as, first, a soloist and a chamber musician, then a composer for renowned orchestras, artists and composers – such as Frank Braley, Pierre Amoyal, Yuri Bashmet and many others – that he regularly enjoys.
Despite his incredible life and countless compositions, which are grouped into thirty works, Patrick Dheur has not forgotten his hometown, Liège. An honorary citizen, he recorded a record of the piano music of César Franck and is the Conservator of the Musée André-Modeste Grétry, from which he exhumed a previously undiscovered manuscript dating to 1770 in 2013.
