L’historien dans son atelier – Snel

L’historien dans son atelier

A co-publication of the Société des Bibliophiles Liégeois and the SNEL printing press, with input from the Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique.

In the historian’s studio: a typological approach to the document

  • This anthology brings together contributions from 36 specialists, who share their knowledge and passion with anyone who has an interest in the historical approach.
  • Each of the 82 extracts in the book is dedicated to a particular type of document.
  • The framework selected is the history of Liège, from its beginnings until the end of the Ancien Régime

A quadruple inquiry

Each extract has one individual goal, which it approaches through four questions:

  • How does one define this type of document: what is it?
  • How does the historian examine this document: what can one look for?
  • What is the document that has been chosen as an example: what is its transmission and context? Is it an example or an exception?
  • How can one highlight the contribution of this document to the history of Liège.
